It's not My Dream Resort, but........ it's not too bad.

It's not My Dream Resort, but........

       .......  It's not too bad.

As you will see previously, My Dream Resort is just that - an absolute dream.  If I could, I'd stay there all the time, but the finances won't stretch to that.  So, after 2 days at My Dream  it was time to get real.

Villa Mahasok

I've moved to Villa Mahasok.
Oupalathxiengkong Road, Ban Vieng Keo.
(Ban is the lao word for village.)
Ban Vieng Keo is a like a suburb of Luang Prabang.
It would take me 10 - 15 minutes to stroll to the centre of the old town.

Villa Mahasok costs $84 (Aus) a week including breakfast, ensuite and air conditioning.
About the same price as a night at My Dream Resort.

This is where we have breakfast every day.
And during the day if I want to go and write emails or this blog, this is where I'll go.
Yes, it is a very tough life!

There are many positives:

  • It's close to all the places I need to go to.
  • It is spotless.
  • It is incredibly cheap for what you get.
  • They do my laundry for $1.65 a kg.
  • The young staff who run it are lovely.  All in their early 20's, they work incredibly hard.  They are from Vietnam, speak no English or Lao, so my thought of practising my Lao isn't possible.  I have a feeling this guesthouse has recently been bought by Vietnamese people.  They are forever working on improvements e.g. painting a wall here, dividing a room there, building clothes drying racks etc etc.  I imagine that when all the work is finished, the price will go up.

My room.  I can just hear my mother, Peg saying, "Margaret, you should have made the bed before you took the photo. "

The view from balcony outside my room.
